Em Dash Creative was founded by Karen Scholl, a writer, creative director and strategist who has spent more than 20 years helping corporations, non-profits, brands, and executives figure out what they want to say and how they need to say it.

About me

If I was stuck on a desert island with only one form of punctuation, I’d choose em dash. This long-ish line—the result of throwing a few hyphens together—is great at simplifying things and can do the job of many other marks. It’s straightforward, somewhat spur-of-the-moment, leans toward the casual, and physically makes room for what you really want to say.

(Let me add that, stranded on this island, I’d be pretty delighted with the prospect of never seeing an exclamation point again.)

My work has been focused on—but not limited to—the digital space. I’ve worked with clients of all sizes, from local start-ups to global corporations. Companies and brands include Bush’s Beans, Gain detergent, The Coca-Cola Company, Quaker, Wendy’s, Scott’s Miracle-Gro, Procter & Gamble, Abbott Nutrition, The Wellington School, Kaufman Development, and Taylor Strategy Partners.
